Happy July Fourth!  Let’s start the July Fourth Holiday with some upbeat mortgage news. Palm State Mortgage brings you some happy statistics from the Office of Comptroller of Currency (OCC), from their newest Mortgage Metrics Report. In short, the OCC praises this quarter of 2012 for having the “best mortgage performance since 2008.”
They base this on several shiny, star-spangled national statistics:
1. When counting up the  mortgages that are 30 to 59 days delinquent, plus those that are 60 to 80 days delinquent, we are  at the lowest level of mortgage delinquency, since the first quarter of 2008.
2. Mortgages that are current are 88.9 percent up. This is significant because it is a 1.1 percent increase from our previous quarter and we are up 0.3 percent better than a year earlier.
3. Deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure, and short-sales decreased home forfeiture actions to 185,781 during the quarter.

Speaking of upbeat news, as we prepare to celebrate one America’s biggest patriotic holidays, we wish all of you a “Happy Fourth of July!” Our wish is also for a safe Fourth of July.  So Palm State Mortgage has gathered some safety tips for you and your family.
1.  Rockets Red Glare! If fireworks are legal in your community, use them safely. If you are watching fireworks, stay at a safe distance.  We suggest you attend a professional pyrotechnic event. While we are mentioning fire, please be careful around the barbecue pit or grill;  you do not want your house or yard to burn up when you have worked so hard to obtain the mortgage.  See more about fireworks at this informative source.
By the way, statistics tell us that every July 4, an average of about 8,800 people who play with bottle rockets and find themselves in the Emergency Room with cuts, burns, abrasions and shrapnel.
2.  Bad Cocktail! Alcohol and fireworks do not mix! If you are hosting a party or cook-out, why not arrange a designated driver for your drinking guests?
3.  Don’t Get a BUI! Our great Florida lakes, waterways, and ocean will be crowded with boats. It never hurts to review the boating laws in your area. Please, don’t drink and drive your boat. It’s illegal, and you can be arrested.
4.  Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner? To discourage bees and wasps from attending your picnic or cook-out, keep your food covered. Keep an emergency anaphylaxis kit on your first aid shelf for guests that might be allergic to stings.

Keeping safety in mind, we wish you a fun, relaxing holiday. Once again, thank you for reading our blog and we hope you’ll like us on Face Book!  We send out a special Fourth of July salute to our armed services and our U.S. veterans. In honor of them, and to celebrate the holiday at Palm State Mortgage, we present the words to Lee Greenwoods’ song, “Proud To Be An American!”

“If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless theUSA.”
