Palm State MortgageWe begin this blog with a Palm State Mortgage salute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This week Palm State Mortgage Company interrupts its usual schedule of mortgage-related news and information.

Today, we celebrate the cause of Breast Cancer Awareness by mentioning some of the Breast Cancer facts, we should keep in the spotlight this special time of year.  Thus, today’s blog will celebrate this important cause with some thought-provoking statistics.

Here at Palm State Mortgage Company, there is no doubt about it:  Fall brings Orlando world of color. We know you have seen gold and red leaves in the treetops of some of our parks, but we bet you’ve seldom seen pink palm trees.

Since our name is “Palm State Mortgage Company, we hereby symbolically “paint” our palm trees pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Mortgage Company Thinks Pink In October!

It seems like people everywhere are wearing that powerful pink loop of ribbon on jackets and collars.  You see it in Orlando on business people in offices and stores all over town.
With our pink ribbons, we honor our sisters, mothers, wives, daughters, aunts and friends.

Some of them are among the lucky two million women survivors who have fought this disease and lived to tell their stories.

Likewise, October is the public month to remember those who fought bravely but did not survive this disease.
At Palm State Mortgage, our hearts go out to breast cancer survivors all year-long, not just in October.  We wear the ribbons of cancer awareness on our chests where you can see them in October, but we wear them in our hearts all year-long.

Undoubtedly, you will hear some breast cancer awareness facts more than once as the month continues.  Palm State Mortgage Company hopes you will take a moment to understand them, and the actual Pink Palm Trees symbolize Palm State Mortgage's Committment to Cancer Awareness.women behind the statistics.

Breast Cancer Awareness:  A Personal Crusade

In fact, Palm State Mortgage suggests that we personalize the Breast Cancer statistics!  Let’s attempt to think about the feeling beyond the facts:

  • We were very surprised to discover that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.  It is true that women have much to fear from lung cancer and melanoma, but when we look at statistics, breast cancer is still women’s number one cancer killer.

  • Are you aware that 220,000 women in the United States alone will be diagnosed with breast cancer during 2015?

Palm State Mortgage Company:  Think Pink!

  • Of all the facts on all the breast Cancer Awareness posters, Palm State Mortgage Company hereby judges this one as the saddest:  Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of women’s deaths in the U.S. and 40,000 women in the United States will actually die of this disease, this year.

This is why we wear pink ribbons and decorate with them.  This is why we have seen more pink balloons in October that any other month.  We must call public attention to breast cancer stories and statistics.

Here in Orlando, have you seen the pink curbside in College Park?  Many downtown businesses joined in the effort to publicly acclaim this cause.  And they painted the curbs around the park bright, demanding, undefeated, valiant and unapologetic PINK.
Likewise, have you seen the Orlando businesses giving away the classic pink plastic flamingo yard decoration in return for donations?

In the midst of our busy lives, creating these pink reminders allows us to remain sensitive to the plight of Breast Cancer victims and our part in the fight for research, funds and advocacy.

  • We also wear our ribbons with the realization that 40,000 women from 2015 did not–or will not, survive to wear pink ribbons–in October of 2016, next year.

So, just for October, think of Palm State Mortgage as Pink Palm State Mortgage Company, although we can not actually paint all the palms in Orlando pink.

Now, we ask you to consider this question:  how many of your friends and relatives have you reminded to make their 2015 mammogram appointments?  If just one pink blog or one pink ribbon can motivate one woman to get her mammogram in time to avoid fighting this dreadful disease, our time will be well spent!
