Since our business is financial, we thought we’d take a look at some of the finances behind July 4th.  Just to give you a smile, we’re sharing the estimated expenditures behind July 4th celebrations:

The weather is hot, so there will be a billion dollars in beer sold for parties and picnics.  Independence Day also brings traditional foods. Thus Americans will consume at least 7.1 million dollars in special foods for cook-outs, barbecues and family get-togethers.  Keep in mind these expenses are spread over the three days generally considered the July Fourth Holiday.  Sometime during this special week, last week-end, and this coming week-end, the USA Birthday celebrants will buy 150 million hot dogs.

Lighting Up Independence Day Skies with Dollars

Believe it or not, 675 million dollars will be spent by individuals, families, and communities for fireworks and pyrotechnics.  All in all, American families will be spending, according to statistical estimates, $346.50 per family for the Independence Day activities.  This includes a little bit of budget for travel.

Independence Day Brings Orlando Record-Breaking Travel

Speaking of travel, please be very careful on our Central Florida Roadways in this year of record-breaking July Fourth travel.  You will be sharing your highways, freeways, and country lanes with 44 million other travelers. This year, Americans chose Orlando as the number one travel destination in America for July 4 vacations.

Palm State advises you to stay at the speed limit and avoid that 1 billion dollars’ worth of beer (or alcohol of any kind,) when you drive.  We also suggest you leave early for your destination, party or special event.  If you are not tempted to hurry, you will feel less stressed.  Then, not only can you be a better driver, you can better watch out for the other guy’s driving.  We used to call that “defensive driving.”  The current slogan is more intense:  “Arrive Alive.”

Palm State certainly wants that for all its friends and clients.  Authorities are expecting 400 fatal car crashes during the 4th of July.  That means highway patrolmen and local police will handle  400 traffic-related deaths in the United States.  Palm State Mortgage Company deplores this statistic. That is why we traditionally include our “Drive Safely” caution in this annual Independence Day Blog.

Independence Day Inspiration

We hope that in between all the food, fireworks and fun as you celebrate on July 4th, you take a moment to recognize the reason for this holiday, which is why we dedicate this blog to our military.  It has been a Palm State Mortgage custom each year to bring you an inspiring Independence Day saying, song or quotation.  Therefore, today we present some inspiration from the American celebrity John Wayne.

We cannot resist closing our Salute to Independence Day with a quotation which will bring you insight into our basic American values, as spoken by Ronald Reagan.
