It is not every day that you find a sweet surprise on the blog of your mortgage company.  Even more unusual is to find much three of them.  We interrupt our usual policy of blogging about Mortgage and Finance in order to bring you three very special Thanksgiving Treats!

Now, you might think of them as treats or as trivia.  But, be assured, we send you these nuggets of knowledge in the spirit of thanks for your friendship, support, and trust.

Surprise:  Our 3 Favorite Thanksgiving Treats come from the American Customs of Thanksgiving!

Surprise thank you to our clients from Palm State Mortgage! Autumn flowers from our hearts!

Surprise! A gift from the heart!

Treat Number One:  “Well, Pardon me!”

A few days before Thanksgiving Day, The President of the USA presides over a special ceremony called “The National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation.”
He “pardons” a turkey, thus saving it from becoming the star of a Thanksgiving dinner.  “The light-hearted ritual was formalized in 1989 during the office of President George H. W. Bush. Successive presidents have granted presidential pardons to many a turkey.  These lucky birds now enjoy a life of comfort on a farm for the rest of their life.”

Treat Number Two:  “About that dinner?”

We are grateful to modern historians for setting us straight about the menu of that first Thanksgiving feast.  “While no record  exists of the historic banquet’s exact menu, the Pilgrim chronicler Edward Winslow wrote in his journal that Governor Bradford sent four men on a “fowling” mission in preparation for the event.”  Also reported was that “the Wampanoag guests arrived bearing five deer.”

On the other hand, they also tell us that they did have the common spices associated with those recipes, and they were likely incorporated into the meal in some manner.

Treat Number Three:  Make it official!

Surprise! A lovely Thanksgiving still life symbolizes the Season’s riches.

“It has seemed to me, fit and proper that (God’s gifts) should be a solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged with one heart and one voice by the whole American people.

I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens…to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.”

-From President Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1863
