PALM STATE WELCOMES LABOR DAY: PICNICS, PARADES AND PARTIES!
At the end of this week, most Americans are looking forward to a wonderful three day tradition: The Labor Day Week-End.
With this mini-holiday, we bid a sad good-bye to summer and greet the coming autumn and winter seasons of 2014. There will be family picnics, parties with friends and fine barbecues in backyards and parks across America.
We take this opportunity to wish all our clients, friends and family, a safe and happy long week-end.
THE TRUTH ABOUT LABOR DAY CELEBRATIONS:
The idea of Labor Day is rooted in a sense of justice and pride for the average American worker. At Palm State Mortgage Company, we see hard working, industrious Americans every day, Americans who understand the value of good employment and take their
responsibilities of home or business ownership seriously. We applaud them.
Do you know the origin of Labor Day?In this country it began when 10,000 men marched the streets of New York City, in protest of the normal ten hour work day, in 1882. Instead of breaking out in riots, these noble workers followed their picketing with picnicking!
It was not until 1885 that states begin recognizing the Holiday officially. Then, 1894, it became a national holiday honoring workers on the first Monday of every September.
It is no wonder that we now celebrate this event with parades, picnics and cook-outs.
It is an irony of history that the above described NYC event happened on September 5, 1882, but we had to wait until 1916 for the eight hour work day to become legal, by the
authority of the Adamson Act.
Now that you know the original intent of Labor Day, Palm State Mortgage hopes you will take a moment to appreciate the vitality, dependability and initiative of the American worker. Before you go on your outing, give him or her a mental pat on the back!
